Hopepunk Creative was born from despair, frustration, and burn out. It was born because I desperately needed hope. In the face of the titanic corporate machine of our world squeezing us for every last dollar, using AI to strip workers of their power, and pitting us against each other through cruelty and bigotry, what could I possibly do?
I’m not a persuasive speaker, and I don’t have a large social network to draw on. I’m just a nerdy introvert with social anxiety. The one thing I can do is make art, which doesn’t feel like nearly enough.
But I believe that art can be powerful. Art can changes minds, help you see something from a new perspective, and help you imagine something you believed impossible.
That’s my goal with Hopepunk Creative. I want to make you see how the world could be in spite of the way that it is. (Thank you, Hadestown.) As a lifelong science fiction and fantasy fan, I’m drawing inspiration from Hopepunk and Solarpunk to imagine a future in which protecting the earth and our communities are prioritized above profit shares. I want to stop seeing only what is possible now and dream of what could be possible in the future if we look at things from another angle. Hopefully, a more kind and human one.
